What you need
The PC, USB stick, network and controller you need to install CouchPotatOS.
CouchPotatOS takes over a whole drive and turns the PC into a console. Before you start, check that you have:
| A 64-bit PC with UEFI | Any x86-64 PC from roughly the last ten years. Old BIOS-only machines aren’t supported. |
| A drive of 32 GB or more | The drive you install on is erased completely. An internal SSD gives the best experience. |
| A USB stick of 2 GB or more | For the installer. Everything on it is erased when you write the installer to it. |
| Internet | Wired or Wi-Fi. The installer downloads the system (about 2.3 GB), and Steam updates itself on first boot (about 500 MB). |
| A controller | A controller on a USB cable is easiest for setup. A keyboard works too. |
Graphics cards
- AMD Radeon and Intel graphics, Arc included, work out of the box.
- NVIDIA cards work out of the box with the open nouveau driver. On first boot, CouchPotatOS offers NVIDIA’s own driver, which is faster in games. See First boot.
Back up first
Installing erases the drive you choose, including any other operating system on it. Copy anything you want to keep somewhere else first.
