Updates
How CouchPotatOS updates, how to update from Steam, and the Stable and Beta channels.
CouchPotatOS never updates behind your back. Updates run only when you start them from Steam.
Update from Steam
Open Steam’s Settings → System and check for updates. When a new version is ready, apply it and restart.
How it works
Each version of CouchPotatOS is one complete, signed system image, the same for everyone. An update installs the new image next to the one you’re running, and the PC switches to it at the next restart.
- Your games, saves, Steam account, Wi-Fi and settings carry over.
- If you installed NVIDIA’s driver, it’s installed again on the new version automatically.
- The previous version is kept. If a new version fails to start, the PC goes back to it.
Steam itself updates the way it always does, independently of the system.
Channels
Choose the channel in the same place in Steam’s settings:
| Channel | You get |
|---|---|
| Stable | Versions we have tested. Updates every few weeks. |
| Beta | Every new build, following openSUSE Tumbleweed closely. Newer, but less tested. |
